Serra Club of Charleston, W. Va.
Welcome to the Home Page of the Serra
Club of Charleston, West Virginia.
Serra International is a global lay apostolate for vocations in the
Catholic Church. The purposes of Serra
International are to foster
and promote vocations to the Catholic priesthood and religious life and
to encourage its members to fulfill their own Christian vocations to
service.
Serra
International
comprises Clubs around the world whose members are faithful Catholic
laymen and laywomen called Serrans. Since it was founded in
1935
in Seattle, Washington, more than 1,100 Serra Clubs have been chartered
in 46 countries on six continents.
Our Club was founded on March 17, 1951, under Charter No. 60. The
Charleston Club is growing and always welcomes new members for its
important mission of prayer and work for the Church. You may
know
one of our members.
Serra
International was named in honor of Blessed Father Junípero Serra,
the
18th century Franciscan missionary who founded
many missions in Northern California. Father Serra was
beatified by Pope John Paul II on September 25,
1988. His Feast Day is July 1.
